(meteorobs) Leonids from Costa Rica
Hi lists:
Just a few notes to report that this early morning (monday to Tuesday) I
was able to observe for about three hours and watched some 35 Leonids,
many of them with visual magnitudes over -3, including a bolide of about
-10 mag.that crossed about one quarter of the sky before going over a
hill, followed almost inmediately by two more -5 mag meteors. The smoke
trails lasted for about 5 minutes. The colors of the meteors were from
bright white to yellow and the smoke trails were bright green. And all
this from my backyard, in the middle of the city and with a LM of no
more than 4. Some of these little things are even projecting shadows on
the ground! I had never seen anithing like thos in my life.
If this is a prelude of what is to come tonight, I can only say wow!. So
far it is overcast outisde but the radiant will be up by eleven o'clock
local time (5 am UT), so there is plenty of time to clear up.
