Re: (meteorobs) Re: Maybe next year.../LEONIDS FROM CENTRAL VA

Dear fellow meteor observers,
In over 25 years of meteor observing, I have never seen the Leonids produce more than 20 meteors/hour. However, this year was definitely different! Under skies of limiting magnitude 6.2 I observed average Leonid rates of between 40 - 50 /hour on 17 NOV between 0700 - 1000 UT. This may not seem very significant based on the higher rates of others, however, there were many bright Leonids as I spotted at least six fireballs with nice long trains. Maybe next year will produce higher rates, albeit less bright Leonids? I tend to agree with Bob on this one. Hope everyone is recovering well from the glorious nights of Leonid Observing! In Astronomical Affinity - Felix

** My official Leonid rate charts will follow next week.
