Re: (meteorobs) Tape Recorder for observing?

Well, I'm thinking of trying to get more "formally" into observing
(hopefully with the upcoming Geminids) and I'm interested in trying the
"tape recorder" method. Even indoors at a pleasant temperature in a
brightly-lit room, doing nothing else but writing, I am incapable of reading
my OWN handwriting; it's exponentially worse when I'm freezing my behind off
 with a dim red-flashlight outside.........

So, what is the most inexpensive (a big concern for me) recorder-mic setup
that is reliable, fairly battery-efficient (with a long battery life, or
rechargeable or something), and easy to use in a meteor-recording situation?
And can be easily found at a Radio Shack or Circuit City or something.....

You are just gonna have to check out Radio shack or somewhere like that. I
personally avoid the recorders that are voice actuated. I've had problems in
the past where they miss the first word or two when recording. A setback if
all you say is, "+2 Leonid" for example. Others might have no problems at all
with them...but I won't have one. As for being the most inexpensive and
reliable etc...you get what you paid for. I've already gone thru 3 tape
recorders these last several years. So far the most reliable one I have was
the first one I acquired...a General Electric cheapie that I'm not sure where
I picked up at? Possibly from Sears, Wards...or maybe Radio Shack?
