(meteorobs) mystery flash, 9:25 PM EST 11/20/98

I was at the monthly meeting of the Susquehanna Valley Amateur Astronomers
in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania earlier tonight. We were trying to set up a
computerized scope and not having much luck because we only had a few holes
in the clouds to sight stars through. At some point between 9:20 and 9:25
PM, probably closer to the latter, I was looking downward when the ground
was lit up by a yellowish flash for about a second. I assumed it was a car
turning the corner of the road near the Bucknell observatory, but several
people either were looking up at the time or looked up in time to see a huge
yellow flash about halfway between Jupiter and the horizon. They said it
didn't look like any sort of meteor that anyone had ever seen, and we were
unable to see any train. Could it have been a point meteor? Did anyone
else see it?
