Re: (meteorobs) Prospector says he's found Leonid meteorite

Being one of those nuts who collects meterotites and, therefore, has
read quite a bit about them, the stories I've seen here since the
Leonid shower about barns burning down from Leonid impacts and
prospectors finding "still glowing" (after hours on the ground) Leonids
smack of one thing: fraud for insurance or publicity reasons. Every
account I've read of meteorites found immediately after impact has called
them cold, warm, or, at most, hot to the touch, not "glowing." Note
that the common name "fireball" as reported in the press probably gives
the uninformed the "glowing hot" or "fire starting" part of their story.
Please report back on the outcomes of the burning barns and the
prospector's rock (IF you ever see them again in the news after they're
proven to be frauds).
