(meteorobs) Leonid Observations Nov 17-18/98



Good Morning All!!

This is a bit dated, but I have been trying to get this out since Wed 
morning, hope your not to bored with it.

After what seems like an eternity since clear skies, the clouds have 
left the area, and graced us with crystal clear skies.

Well temperature this morning was -10 degrees C with a slight wind 
chill. Wind from the West, then turning to the South/South-West.
Outside at 6:26 am UT
Area of  observing- Southeast- Sirus
10% Obstruction

Start-6:50  am UT
End- 9:34 UT
Breaks- 7:30-7:49 
             8:32-8:45
     plus 1 min to dismantle the camera setup
Limiting Magnitude areas 4 & 8 
6:50 area 4-9  LM
6:54 area 8-13 LM
7:30 area 4-9  LM
7:30 area 8-12  LM
8:16 area 8-9  LM
8:16 area 4-9  LM
8:49 area 8-9  LM
8:49 area 4-9  LM

Took 3 picutres, before the whole camera and tripod were totally 
coated in ice crystals.

8:09 mars-E frame 7 shut off at 8:29 UT
frame 8 8:32 till 8:50 Zenith and slightly west ( camera slipped, 
could be an interesting shot)

This is what I have seen

North Taurids - 3
South Taurids - 1
Leonids - 21
Sporadics -12
