(meteorobs) Color of meteors- chemical?

Hello:

Just a quick question.... I am under the impression that the color of a
meteor is caused by the chemical reaction, thus a green meteor is usually
magnesium, a yellow is by sodium and red by cobalt. I am trying to
convince
someone that it's not atmospheric refraction or the likes but the chemical
composition of the meteor. Correct? or not correct?

Thanks..

Mike
