According to Gary Kronk's website (found at this
URL:>http://medicine.wustldot edu/~kronkg/index.html<), the Perseid maximum in
the year 2000 occurs on August 12 at 2 hrs. U.T.
Israel is two time zones east of Greenwich, so to convert U.T. to the time
in Israel, add two hours. Apparently, some or all of Israel adds an hour
during the summer months, and if this is so at your location, then you
should add 3 hours rather than 2 hours.
Accordingly, the Perseid maximum should occur either at 4 a.m. or 5 a.m.
local time on August 12, 2000, depending on whether or not the extra hour
is added.
This indicates the radiant, as seen from Israel, should be almost due north
at an altitude of about 60 degrees when the maximum of this meteor shower
is occurring.
Unfortunately, the moon will be nearing full (full moon August 15, 2000).
This leaves me wondering if the year 2000 is a typographical error, that
instead you are planning for 1999, when the moon will be new at the time of
the Perseid maximum?
If indeed you are planning for the Perseids in 1999, the maximum is
projected to occur on August 12 at 20 hrs. U. T., or at 10 or 11 p.m. local
time. The radiant will then be near azimuth 30 degrees (approximately
north-northeast), at an altitude of about 20 degrees, as seen from Israel.
