Your best bet is to hope we hit another strand of bright Leonids
this year, though David Asher's calculations (the embargo now
lifted) indicate that we won't encounter the 1333 strand in 1999. 
I lost count of the number of green fireballs on 1998 Nov 16/17.

Through the telescope I only saw fainter Leonids, and appeared white.
Some brighter telescopic Quadrantids look blue.  To me the Perseids
look yellow.
