(meteorobs) Observation Apr 10/11 1999

The following night, April 10/11, I headed out again to Casselman to
observe about 3 hours teff. I took a break to nap between 5:10-5:45 UT. At
one point, I was startled by a strange noise right beside me, but soon
realized it was just a telescope dewcap rolling on the ground from the
wind. Skies were good with limiting magnitude of almost 6.3. I again
concentrated on the Virginids, and tried to determine whether the activity
came from the IMO radiant or the anthelion radiant.

The very first meteor I saw was certainly the highlight of the night. 24
minutes after I began, a gorgeous earthgrazer appeared! It was a slow
moving, 60 degrees long sporadic that began in the north-west and headed
south. It began as magnitude +1, but gradually brightened on the second
half of its path to yellow/orange magnitude -3. Despite the slow velocity,
a definite 1 second train was seen. The meteor itself lasted a good 4 or 5
seconds.

A total of 19 meteors were all plotted. With the 2 Virginids I saw, one
aligned with IMO and the other from the anthelion. One of these Virginids
also aligned with the Mu Virginids. All other meteors were sporadics.
