(meteorobs) South Ga Lyrids

Here are my three day observations centered aroung the Lyrid Peak.
The highlight was a mag-7 fireball that ended in a terminal burst
on @ 09:25 UT 4-22-99. I saw far more Lyrids on the 23rd
(see period 3).

Meteor 30 was a fireball. It may have been a bolide, given its
characteristics.
-Appeared at 09:25 UT, halfway between Vega and Beta Scorpio
-at least a Mag 7 terminal burst
  -8-10 second train
  -at *LEAST* 45-50 degree path
  -duration app 2.5 sec.
-moved down towards horizon (away from Vega)
-began a quick steady rise in magnitude after initial appearance, was
already a
fireball by the time of the the terminal burst. “Explosion” at
termination
caused an easily visible glow against the top of an oak tree that was

   “under” the burst.
-did not notice any sound, but was not being particularly attentive
for them
   (inexperience!)
Best description--looked like a patriot missile that found its
prey...only much
   faster. Unlike anything I’ve seen.
