Using a rather non-standard method (I lay in bed watching meteors out of
the window when I woke up) I would "confirm" high rates of eta Aquarids on
1999 May 5 at (roughly) 18UT or later.  In a very restricted field of
view, I saw about 5 eta aquarids in half an hour or more.  The rates of
the Victorian observers seem quite reasonable.
