Sporadic meteors are as their name implies. Seeing a handful coming from a
point in the sky is not enough to say that a new shower has been found. The
same activity would have to be observed for a number of years by many
observers to determine the reality of a shower. It would take radio
observations too.
No doubt others can help with this.
Not sure myself either as to the official naming of a shower - could be the
IAU?
