(meteorobs) Re:(Meteorobs)Addressing unrelated topics

Hello List,

Not wanting to shoot the messenger because of the message, I did note that in
the posting I read, it exampled several UFO reports (UFO implying extra
terrestrial intelligent manned objects in stead of its original Air Force
use-- meaning exactly what it says-- unidentified flying object, pending
identification) which were actually meteors. I believe that post, while it
may have had an alternative agenda, was legitimate and instructive. For
another cliché lets not throw the baby out with the bath water.

I also believe and support that this is not a place for reporting, nor
discussing observations of UFOs, where the implication is that they are
extra-terrestrial space craft etc. One exception being to debunk an assertion
which may be better explained as a meteor!

I believe future postings need to be distinguished among the "UFO / Alien
sighting/conspiracy/coverup/ genre"--which are Off topic-- and legitimate
ignorant mis- identification. Reports which are made in an attempt to explain
one's experiences framed in pop culture need to be handled in a constructive,
non-abrasive manner, no matter how personally annoying.

As a meteor observer and meteorite hunter, I do not like to stifle fireball
reports I like to encourage and amplify on them. OTOH As a consumer, I hate
downloading extra non-relevant emails.

I agree that we personally limit our postings which are marginal and choose our
debates. Some are not worth fighting. ANY posting which becomes controversial
and annoying, by definition, cannot be settled in this forum! Therefore it
needs abandonment after opening remarks and two to three generations.

Fighting for absolute principle is usually less effective then an occasional
Amen. I understand the need to quash misinformation in general but also
recognize that meta communications and hidden agendas come frequently disguised
in the form of an apparently literal "face-value " posting. The later can't
not be settled in this forum--it is not intended to be! Some people thrive on
evangelism and controversy.

So I trust my collegues to assit me in that effort. Does what I am posting
pertain to the interest of the group at large? Or is this a one-on-one
matter? Just a thought to work into your daily schedule!

Regards to All,
Elton Jones
