(meteorobs) June 26/27 1999 visual report

Hello,

I got completely clouded out last night (June 27/28). However, the night
before I was able to go out for over 2 hours of observing, hoping to see
maybe some early June Bootids. Despite the moon, the sky was very clear at
Casselman with over 5.2 magnitude stars visible. Some faint trace of Milky
Way could even be glimpsed into Cygnus. I faced north the entire session to
keep the moon well away from my field.

Result is negative for any possible JBO. I counted only 6 meteors, all
sporadics except for the surprise 3:42 UT appearance of a nice Tau Aquarid
(TAQ). The magnitude +3 meteor appeared into the north near Polaris, and
grazed over a long 35 degrees path. It left behind a one second train. The
TAQ radiant was only 1 or 2 degrees below the eastern horizon at the time.
I wonder how much more lenght this meteor would have shown under much
darker skies!

Also got a nice magnitude +1 sporadic that shot fast only 3 degrees. It
left a bright but brief one second train.

Skies dont look good for this Monday evening. I'll keep an eye just in case.
Clear skies!

Plots to be sent to Bob Lunsford.
