> Tuesday, July 6th at 8:25, an object plunged into the atmosphere
>north-northeast of my home in Petal, Mississippi. No kidding. It
>seemed to start a few degrees short of zenith and in less than a second,
>disappeared just above the horizon. It was extremely bright and burned
>with a red corona. Half way to the horizon it split into about 3 pieces
>which seperated slightly from the main piece.
> It left a smoke trail from beginning to end, and at the point where
>it split up, the smoke trail nearly trippled in size. The trail barely
>moved for several minutes, but did get very crooked like that of a long
>past jet. The fact that the trail didn't seem to move, despite a steady
>breeze, indicated that it was very high in the atmosphere and was not a
>left over Indipendance day firecracker.
> Being that I have never seen a meteor that was large enough to break
>up, I was very excited about this. I wanted to e-mail someone who might
>get news if it happened to reach ground. If so would you please e-mail
>me, and tell me.
> Thanks,
