Re: (meteorobs) Fireballs & sonic booms

I only mentioned one observation of a simultaneous sound associated with a
meteor as I flet having heard the sound first and having my attention
directed towards the meteor were significant. However when I started
meteor observing as a young teenager, I often noted a simultaneous swish
or hiss with some pretty run of the mill meteors. On no occasion did
others observing with me hear the same sounds. I also noted a small
number of curving or "oscillating" (sinusoidal) meteors. My
understanding at the time was that these were not really controversial.
After a few meteor watches, I stopped noticing these anomalous events and
it was only later that I discovered there was any controversy surrounding
their reality.

My understanding of Keay's theory is that a turbulent wake is required to
cause the Earth's magnetic field lines to become "tangled" within it.
Such a turbulent wake requires a large body (= fireball).
