(meteorobs) Observation July 17/18 1999

Hello all,

Here are two more recent July observations. Last Saturday July 17/18, I
joined the local group of observers on a trip out to Foymount, west of
Ottawa. I intended to observe meteors all night. Despite a promising
forecast, a thick cloud blanket with a few showers stood on top of us the
entire evening. Fortunately, the night was not a complete washout. A clear
break unexpectedly appeared well past midnight and lasted less than an
hour. I took advantage of the very dark, transparent skies to record
meteors right away. With cooler and much less humid weather compared to the
previous days, the sky overwhelmed us with limiting magnitude 6.9. It was
real nice to see that many stars after a dull evening of seeing mag +1
through clouds. However not long after, clouds were back and forced
everyone to head back home.

I observed from 4:45 UT until 5:30 UT for a total of 0.62 teff. Only a few
clouds obscured my FOV during the session. I recorded a total of 10
meteors. Activity came from Alpha Cygnids, Perseids and others were
sporadics. No really bright meteors, best was a magnitude 0 sporadic (or
possible ACY).

One break was taken during that session (5:15-5:19). Other dead time is for
plots.
