(meteorobs) Observation July 19/20 1999

Last Tuesday morning July 19/20, I went to Casselman to observe the
pre-dawn sky for 2 hours teff under fabulous conditions. Skies were very
transparent and impressive. My limiting magnitude was perhaps the highest
so far for that site, reaching 6.6 near zenith. The mean limiting magnitude
all together still comes to 6.5. It was also comfortable enough not to need
a sleeping bag. It more than made up for a number of recently failed
sessions at Casselman when thick clouds would come out of nowhere.

From 5:35 to 7:50 UT, a total of 37 meteors were seen. Activity was decent
and kept me quite busy plotting (31 of them plotted successfully). Most
activity were sporadics. The S. Delta Aquarids were the most active of the
showers with 4 seen. Meteors were also seen in smaller numbers from
Perseids, Sigma Capricornids (anthelion) and Alpha Cygnids. In addition, 3
sporadics may be possible Alpha Capricornids. 3 other meteors aligned with
the July Pegasids radiant, but I have called these sporadics.

The highlight-of-the-night was a nice magnitude 0 Perseid that flared
briefly on its 15 degrees path and left a one second train. I also noticed
a few very swift meteors from the south-east, including a nice yellow/white
magnitde -1 leaving behind a 2 second train.

No breaks were taken during that session. All dead time is due to time
plotting. Full reports and plots will be sent at NAMN.
