There is certainly a "chance" that a bright Perseid could streak by during 
totality, although certainly the chances would accentuated if the eclipse 
coincided with the maximum of the display instead of occurring 36 hours 
earlier.

The only documented case that I know of a meteor being sighted during 
totality was during the March 7, 1970 eclipse.  A person by the name of 
Thomas Hamilton saw one flash by during totality in North Carolina (from the 
May 1970 Sky & Telescope).
