From the one time I clearly remember standing in the shadow of the moon, I
would think that another factor would greatly reduce the chance of seeing a
meteor during totality. And that is the fact that you may well be utterly
transfixed by the incredible sight! As I remember, between trying to take
pictures, looking at the eclipse and trying to remember all I wanted to do,
the rest of the world ceased to exist. At least until the cruise ship I was
on decided to blow its horn at mid eclipse. That got my attention.

A large Perseid fireball during eclipse totality would be dramatic.
