(meteorobs) Observation Aug 8/9 1999
Hello all,
I was out again on August 8/9 at Casselman. Under very clear skies, I
observed for 3 hours (from midnight to 4:00 EDT) and recording 106
meteors. I faced south-east all night, and I plotted only possible
minor shower members, as it was a high activity night.
Activity was indeed fine with Perseids dominating everything else. I
find it most interesting that some observers see rates far lower than
what I see. I wonder if Perseids may produce some fluctuations in
activity leading to the peak? The last hour had the finest Perseids
rates with 32 seen! Most meteors seemed pretty well spaced apart.
with only a few exceptions of Perseids following each other within 1
or 2 seconds. No fireballs seen, best was a magnitude -3 blue/white
Perseid that left behind a 9 second train.
Minor showers were weak, faint but active. The S. Delta Aquarids
produced 3 meteors. Other showers each produced only one meteor,
including a rare Pisces Austrinid from my latitude. One sporadic
appeared to align with the possible Upsilon Pegasid radiant.
Lets hope for clear skies for the peak nights!
