Re: (meteorobs) Re: Sky Cover Forcasts

Another way to get cloud forecasts without calling Flight Service is to read
the FAA Area Forecasts at http://www.awc-kc.noaadot gov/awc/awc-fa.html .
You'll find a listing there for forecasts all over the country. Reading
them does require learning some weather lingo and abbreviations, but that's
not hard to do. Times are given in "Zulu," which you can think of as
Universal Time; you'll have to convert to your own time zone. Positions
defining the extent of weather systems and conditions are generally given in
terms of three letter airport identifiers. If you are not familiar with
them, there is a worldwide listing at
http://www.cowtowndot net/users/rcr/aaa/ccmain.htm . You will generally find
that a relatively small number of these are used in forecasts for any one
region. I have found these area forecasts to be extremely useful.
