(meteorobs) Aug 13/14 Meteor Observations From California

I ventured out for a fifth and final time to watch the Perseids this
week. Due to lack of sleep I could only watch for two hours this
morning. Watching and then driving directly to work was killing me. I
watched from a viewpoint alongside the interstate highway. Since this
was a weekend morning there were still plenty of folks out watching the
show. The weather was once again warm and breezy. Surprisingly the
Perseids were still providing an excellent show. The first hour was
especially active as more than the usual amount of sporadic activity was
seen. The second hour was not quite as impressive but still made the
drive worth it. The final meteor seen during this session was
outstanding: it was a -2 yellow Kappa Cygnid that crawled just above
Polaris traveling eastward. It was a great way to end the night and this
most productive week of observing!

The first column gives the period watched stated in Universal Time (UT)
which is PDT + 7 hours. The second column gives the percent of that
particular hour actually spent observing the sky. Time was lost for
plotting, photography, and data entry tonight. The third column gives
the average limiting magnitude estimated during each period with a
minimum of 4 estimates using at least 2 and preferably 3 different sky
areas close to my center of view. The last several columns list the
activity seen during each period.

I was facing due east at an altitude of 70 degrees during the entire
session. No breaks were taken during this session. CAP = Alpha
Capricornids, KCG = Kappa Cygnids, NDA = North Delta Aquarids, PER =
Perseids, SIA = South Iota Aquarids, and SPO = Sporadic (random
activity).
