The chance of an outburst is pretty good based on the detection of meteors
from the Alpha Triangulii radiant last year, which was the first time since
1994 that reasonable numbers were observed. The other radiant in Aries has
been much less active. The prospects for an outburst this year is based on
the historic research of Gary W. Kronk. Independent observations were made
by two individuals during 1934, 1940, 1951, and 1993, which indicates that
a period of 5.5 to 6 years may exist. A telescopic component to the Alpha
Triangulii radiant was discovered may Malcolm J. Currie in 1994. The meteors
are rather faint (~3.5 magn.) and have a medium speed. The maximum is around
September 12th or 13th, but is uncertain, as is the duration of this minor
meteor shower, which needs to be studied much more.
