(meteorobs) Brief Flashes

Thanks Malcolm,

As I noted in another post today, "The flashes and 'stuff' I had
seen over the last two years seems to have departed my area, maybe
whatever they are moved up to SW Riverside County."

Due to an unusually cloudy summer at night along the coast, I've
not had the opportunity to do as much observing as before, so I don't
know if the activity is there or diminished compared with past years.
I did send a proposal last year to Peter Jenniskens, of NASA, SETI and
the Astrobiology group there, to work with me, a student and a college
instructor and provide us with a low light TV camera and 25 hours of
tape to try and record Low Luminous Events and a couple of Dark Line
Events, but no response to that idea. If you recall, I invited George
Zay to observe with me back in February when there was a lot of DLEs.
Now, most any time events start happening again I may be able to get
Robert Lunsford up here, he agreed to come up but wanted to beat the
"June gloom" then. I had noticed the year before that the spring was
very slow, like it was in tune with meteor activity, and last spring
was the same, not much happening at all and then the clouds set in
allowing only a few nights along the coast in June, July and August
for observation. I've only seen some activity twice in the last month.

If there's interest out there, I'll start trying to get in some
observation time again and do some record keeping too. If the activity
is gone, then we should talk to Joe Talbert (Talbert Construction,
Joe?), and try and determine if he is seeing something or his eyes are
tricking him.

                                Dave English
