(meteorobs) MS: Alpha-Triangulids
Minor Meteor Shower Alert
This is a follow-up to a message [There is a good chance that the minor
meteor shower the alpha-Triangulids, also known as the Aries-Triangulids,
will put on their best showing since being discovered in 1993 by three
American meteor observers (Sky and Telescope, October 1994)] which
appeared on this list in mid-August. For list members who are involved in
the radio detection of meteors, I have prepared a list of times/antenna
directions to try. I've put an asterisk beside the optimum times. The % in
the list refers to the probability of hearing a meteor-reflected signal IF
THERE IS A SUITABLY POSITIONED METEOR. Times/dates in the listing are UTC.
Note that the times can change by +/- 3 hours. Although the predicted
peak is September 12, it's probably a good idea to listen on the 11th and
13th just in case. The listing is prepared for latitude 44 deg. N.
Shower: alpha-Triangulids
Peak Date: Sept 12
Listing of peak radio times for various antenna directions. (N=north,
SE=southeast, etc.)
