Now hold on thar!!! All the poor meteor watchers in North America seem
to be missing all the activity. This is not necessarily true! Next year
the anticipated peak is predicted (by the IMO) to occur near 8:00
Universal Time which allows all of North America except western Alaska
to see the outburst. Unfortunately a last quarter moon will be near the
radiant but areas of the sky away from the constellation of Leo should
be adequately dark to display much activity should an outburst occur.

In 2001 McNaught and Asher predict another outburst near 10:00 UT which
would allow the entire North America continent to see any outburst in
moon-free skies. I'm not as optimistic about this 2001 prediction as I
feel any outburst that year should occur near 14:00 UT which favors
Hawaii and the Pacific Region. Exactly what occurs this year and in 2000
will definitely help with the 2001 predictions.

So North American's, keep your chin up and keep a sharp lookout for
those crazy Leonids despite the lousy predictions!
