(meteorobs) First October Observations

Greetings List Members

Last night I managed to get my first observations for quite a while for a
couple of hours that were clear of cloud and moonlight. It was a couple of
early evening hours as you can see from the report and what surprised me was
the faintness of the meteor population, only one meteor above 1st magnitude.
I did notice several (3) meteors which seemed to be originating from the
same part of the sky with about the same (very slow) speed. I think I have
traced these down to the Andromedid shower which seems to have the right
location and the right speed (18 km/sec or so). That's what I've logged them
as but I am open to doubts as three in two hours seem a lot for a minor
shower, any comments. I did plot all 16 meteors on charts derived from the
Guide 7 program not the standard Brno atlas charts so I am reasonably
confident of the identifications.

Anyway here are my obervations for 2/3 October 1999

Cheers

David

REMARKS:
Air very still with slight haze present all of the time, hence the low
limiting magnitude. Pervasive local light pollution with low pressure
Sodium lighting. Chilly with heavy dew forming all of time from 20:45
onwards.
