(meteorobs) South GA Orionids

While it appeared earlier this week I would miss out observing near or on the peak date for the Orionids,  I was fortunate to obtain clear skies for for Friday morning.  I arrived at my site a bit too soon, as the moon was still rather high at 3:00 AM local time.  So I causally observed for one hour, seeing just five meteors, one an Orionid pointer that must have been at least a -1.

I began formal observing at 04:00 AM local time with the moon still about 16 degrees above the horizon.  Though the worst of the lunar glare was gone by 4:30 AM local time, my first period reflects the loss, with just 14 meteors (11 ORI's) seen. However, meteor #10 was a -4 STA fireball brief, vivd, and colorful but no train at all.

Just a bit too far south to spot any auroras,  I still managed to have a superb astronomical night, meteor-wise.  Rates really picked up for the final pre dawn hour.  The climax came at the very end of the session, when at 10:01 UT I saw first a SPO, then a flurry of 4 -count 'em!- faint orionids all in one small area of the northeastern sky.  It was hard to end the session with darkness still present, but friday was no holiday...  I saw 33 meteors the 2nd period, including a whopping 21 ORI's!

 I observed for ORI's(32) EGE's(3) STA's(3) NTA's(1) & SPO's(8).  My r value for the ORI's was 2.94.
