Re: (meteorobs) Fwd: Tunguska Methane Comet Impact Theory

Dear Group members,

I would not get too excited about this supposed "theory." Research over a
decade ago has looked at the shock wave an incoming object would face and
the effects could vaporize/pulvarize some types of asteroids. I read only
summaries and not the origianl papers but the work was of high quality and
the facts of the Tunguska event don't need some part of Triton breaking off
which itself is pretty far fetched not to mention the problem of why it did
not sublimate before it got to earth and why a big comet was not seen while
it was on its way in.

If you want a wild theory consider the one where Tungusta was casued by a
malfunctioing nuclear-powered UFO that had a fatal accident in midair! Now
I like that one better.

Cheers,

Terry
