(meteorobs) RE: Leonid "gusts'-the 1997 Japanese Video!

Steve,

Your second ping may be the outside wall of the shock structure
created by the meteor, your third ping, other shock structures. With
patience and testing you may be able to decipher the stuctues of some
meteor shock waves from some frequencies. I would look up the four
meteors in Oct. that you said had double pings within 20 minutes, this
is your key to understanding the radiant and speed that produces
multible pings.

During the summer and fall of 1997 I saw several shock
structures from unborn meteors (or so I believe). At altitude the
structures would be about 400-1000 feet wide, visually they were 4 to
8 minutes arc wide. I also twice have seen meteors after seeing shock
wave fragments first, see my post of 10 July 1999, also the post about
pre-meteor trains of 18 July that I reposted from Alastair McBeath. I
believe at times you may detect these shock wave fragments and maybe
pre-meteor trains too.

By developing observation techniques and sharing it with others
you could, with research and testing, possibley explore and define
shock wave structures created by metors. You have a primitive RADAR,
RAdio Direction And Range finding, certain frequencies should give
better results than others and receiving anntennas certainly a
consideration in designing something to define structure. Could an old
TV dish be adapted to receive bounced signals?
