(meteorobs) Great news about the Israeli Leonids!!!

Great News:

On the nights 16/17 and 17/18 of November, I'll be
watching the Leonids from Israel's dark-skies Southern
desert, the Negev.

The Negev is one of the few places in Israel whcih
give superb crsip clear skies for most days in the
year. It's very dry, and lowest chances for clouds.

The Ramon Observatory, the only professional one in
Israel, lies deep in the Desert, called Mitzpeh Ramon.
I'll be staying in a room in a hotel in the area
(don't worry, not close to the obsevatory, so there's
not ab it of light pollution), with a couple or more
friends from my school and from the country. My main
problem was convincing my parents to let me go, and
convincing of friend's parents, a thing I'm continuing
on doing.

Many groups from around Israel will do independent
observations near the Ramon Observatory, and many
other groups will observe from around the country, so
there will be a full coverage.

I will not be sending my countings and observations
directly to IMO. The Israeli Astronomical Association,
which I'm a member in it will collect the observings,
and send them in an organized way to the IMO.

Ana Levine will be the head of this Meteor Observing
Project. She is also the head of the Meteor Observing
dept. of the Israeli Astronomical Association.

Anyway, this is great news, me going to the Negev and
the observatory. This is ALMOST for sure, I'll tell
you if there will be any changes in plan, and of
course of my observations.

Thanks, Asaf.
