Matti: The meteors in Portales, NM on June 13,1998 consisted of at least two
meteorites that weighed around 34 lbs. Each one made a very sizable boom ,
There were many more pieces in the fall that were around a pound or two. The
witnesses described them as sounding like a sieres of gun shots.
I also picked up an interesting story last week about a Joe Kittinger who
jumped out a balloon at 102,800 feet on Aug 16, 1960. He broke the sound
barrier in freefall by that jump. I had heard that he fell for five minutes.
His sonic boom was heard on the ground.

P.S. If you have any stories about sonic booms I would appreciate them.
