That is important only at the very beginning when the radiant is still
below or near the horizon. You also would want to put the moon at your back
which automatically puts you facing the right way.
Once the moon sets, look about 30 to 50 degrees away from Leo's head in the
direction of your darkest sky.

I had thought to be looking toward the eastern horizon at a time when the
Leo
constellation will be rising here, which would be after midnight, I
believe.
