Anyone Seen our Meteorite? Irish Astronomers Ask

DUBLIN (Reuters) - Irish astronomers asked security camera owners on Tuesday
to check whether they unwittingly filmed a missing meteorite which crashed to
Earth near Dublin in a huge blue fireball last month. "Security camera
operators can play a pivotal role in Irish history in catching this cosmic
fugitive,'' David Moore of Astronomy Ireland, the national stargazing club,
said. Astronomers have so far failed to find the meteorite since it came down
in the Carlow area south of Dublin at about 10:10 p.m. on November 28.
Astronomy Ireland asked owners of indoor security cameras to check their tapes
for a bright flash up to five seconds long, while those with outdoor cameras
should check to see if they recorded the fireball itself. The last meteorite
recovered in Ireland was found in County Tipperary in 1835.
