Re: (meteorobs) Radiant
Kevin, there are some folks who face the radiant, others who face 30-40o away
from it, and still others who will face ANY direction so long as they can look
back (or over) to trace meteors back to that radiant, as I mentioned to you in
my last response. The IMO actually advises the following on their Web site at:

(NOTE that anyone who is just getting started in meteor observing with the
Geminids should really read this entire "Major Shower" page as a start!)
"Carefully choose your observing direction:
It should not be covered by trees, etc., or illuminated by artificial
lights or the Moon.
The center of the field of view should be at 50o to 70o elevation.
Do not look directly at the radiant. A distance of between 20o to 40o away
is optimal. Report the center of the field in your notes."
Note that last sentence: always keep track of where your center of field-of-view
or "CFV" was, so you can include it in your report later!
