Re: (meteorobs) Geminid Weather Prospects

Long-range weather ensembles for next Monday evening place a strong low
pressure system over western Tennessee, with its accompanying cold front
stretching south through the Florida panhandle. A warm will extend eastward
from the low across the Carolinas. This entire system is likely to bring
unsettled weather for much of the Great Lakes and points south to the eastern
Gulf of Mexico. The northeast US will be subjected to a swath of mid-to-high
level cloud cover that should increase and thicken up as the night progresses
(because of the advancing Tennessee storm). Sunday night could be the better
viewing night here.

    On an optimistic note . . . one computer model . . . the ECMWF . . . is
trying to develop a strengthening high pressure system over eastern Canada,
which would drop into the northeast US and delay the spread of the clouds
until Tuesday morning (but this is just an outside shot at this moment).

The Pacific Northwest and Northern Plains could be adversely affected by
low pressure systems centered over northern Idaho and southern Manitoba.

Best overall viewing weather at this point in time appears to be over the
south-central and southwestern states where high pressure will be centered
over the "Four Corners" region.
