(meteorobs) Trying to observe lunar Geminids TONIGHT

Since the Geminids shower has already started
and since it will be overcast across much of the
eastern third of North America both tonight and
tomorrow night, I plan to record the dark side of
the Moon TONIGHT, from about 22:30 UT Dec. 12 UT
to 1:30 UT Dec. 13 UT. The rates won't be as
high as during the next two evenings, but they
may be around a quarter of the peak flux, so we
may get something. So other observations during
this 4-hour period are encouraged, if it is clear
and dark enough during any of that time at your
location.

The occultation of a 10th-mag. star by
63 Ausonia was timed from two stations in
Georgia, 0.8 sec. at Georgetown by Tony Murray
and 2.0 sec. duration at Augusta by Roger
Venable. Both were near the southern limit,
showing that Jan Manek's prediction for the
event was very good, the actual path shifting
only about 0.2 path-widths south of his
predicted path.
     Cirrus clouds prevented observation of
the lunar occultation of Mars around 17h UT
here in Maryland.
