Geminids and Sporadics (was Re: (meteorobs) the radiant)

John, you are right that the chart on the IMO 1999 Meteor Shower Calendar plots
THREE different tracks that radiants follow during this week. Each track is
marked underneath with a three-letter Meteor Shower Code: the track at the
bottom of the chart is marked "MON", for the Monocerotids; the middle track is
marked "XOR", for "Chi Orionids"; and the top track shows the ever-drifting
radiant position for the "GEM" of December showers, the Geminids. :)

BTW Mark Davis's advice IS best for tonight, for all but more experienced meteor
recorders: forget about the other (minor) active showers, and just focus on
recording meteors that trace back to a point slightly northwest of star Castor.
This is the white, fainter northern "Twin" of Gemini. Record such meteors as
"GEM", and count everything else as a "Sporadic" (non-shower meteor), John.

My own reports for the last two nights to follow. Clear skies everyone!

Lew
