(meteorobs) Joshua Tree Geminids 99

Just got back in from an all nighter at Joshua Tree National park with Bob
Lunsford, and Robert Gardner. The Gems were spectacular, and pale only to the
98 leo fireball fest, in comparison. Many thanks to Bob for another great
trip. I really enjoyed it, and to Robert, It was great meeting you, and
hearing some of your history. Wow...
As for the Gems...
The highlight of the night was a -9 gem fireball that crossed a great portion
of the sky from the radiant to the west. Of course, I was facing East and
missed the meteor, but saw the flash, and heard the gasping Ooohs, and Aaahs
from EVERYONE else in the group. My personal best was a -6 Yellow Sporadic
from the north, travelling due south. It crossed 1/3 of the sky, before it
fragmented into at least 4 pcs. It was VERY reminiscent of the Peekskill
fireball video that I've seen on the net. It was awsome.
More later, sleep now.
