I understand the point you're trying to make, but what
you're actually saying is:
"Please keep the word METEOR out of METEORology."
But you're right about the all too quick acceptance of
the "idea" by the Press. But then, we're still left
with the term "meteoric ice". Can you help us by
suggesting a different word that we all can use?
