(meteorobs) Detailed light pollution map of Northeastern U.S.

Check out the following DETAILED satellite light-pollution picture:

    http://www.astropix.com/HTML/H_OTHER/SATPOL1.HTM

Note the nice little dark spot where the Myles Standish Forest site
lies in SE MA - as well as some lovely, LARGE dark areas in NE CT!

[Wayne, where is Chatsworth and how close is it to the NJAA Obs.?]

Note also the paragraph on the effect of particulates and aerosols
on LP, which is apropos of a recent thread on 'meteorobs'...

"Light pollution on the east coast is made much worse by the
condition of the atmosphere, which spreads much more light into
the sky than in the western United States, due to atmospheric
pollution and haze. In some cases, pollution is so severe that
amateur astronomers must take precautions to guard against acid
dew, a variation of acid rain." [Not in Massachusetts, I hope!]

Clear, acid-free skies,
Lew Gramerp
