Point meteors (was Re: (meteorobs) Observations Feb 26/27)

Philipp, a "point" meteor is merely one that is so short, that you can't even
get an impression of what direction it was moving in! These point meteors are
rarer for some observers than for others: some observers are better (or more
experienced) at spotting direction of motion, and log very few "pointers".

On the other hand, other observers may be better at noting sudden brightening,
and so log more of these. There have been a few famous photographs of such point
meteors, including the lovely "snake-eyes" photo taken by Dennis Milan, which
appeared on the cover of the January 1967 "Sky & Telescope"... This showed two
closely spaced, bright point meteors within a few degrees of the Leonid radiant,
taken the night of the 1966 storm from a mountain-top in Arizona.
