Jeff, welcome to our list, and thanks for the WELCOME news that you will be
dedicating your time to recording meteors! (I assume that your unsubscribing
soon after your introductory message is only temporary, by the way?)

The 'meteorobs' list is dedicated EXACTLY to answering questions from folks
like you: and we also provide a forum for you to share your results, gain some
knowledge about the science that underlies what you are observing, and to enjoy
a sense of community with your fellow meteor observers around the world!

================================

Regarding suggested observing and recording techniques for meteors, I cannot
recommend strongly enough that you get hold of the following books and Web
pages, and look them over as you begin your meteor observing adventure:

Meteor Observing Guide of the NAMN (North American Meteor Network). Browse
this EXCELLENT beginners' guide on the Web at the following address:

    http://Web.InfoAvedot net/~meteorobs/guide.html

For U.S. readers in particular, I suggest reading "Meteor Shower Basics" from
the Web site of the American Meteor Society:

    http://www.amsmeteors.org/showers.html

For a brief, readable look at what's happening in meteors each week, see long
time observer Bob Lunsford's "Weekly Meteor Outlook" page at the same site:

    http://www.amsmeteors.org/lunsford/

>From there, you may wish to browse the following sites which provide deeper
detail on both the technique and the scientific aspects of meteor observing:

    http://www.imodot net/visual/

    http://www.amsmeteors.org/projects.html

Clear skies, and happy browsing, Jeff!
