CCD (Charged Coupled Devices) is a kind instrument to transfer photons
to electrons. It is widely used in astronomical telescopes as data
collection tool, replaced the photographic plate. So you can get sky images
directly on your computer screen (transferred from CCD via cable).
The home vedio camera uses technical CCD, which is smaller and less sensitive
(?) than scientific one.
