They are cameras that are fitted to a telescope usually pretty
sophisticated LX200 or bigger that image things from space. It works on a
pixel process, and allows light waves to image whatever you are aimed at.
Then you can put the images on a computer and maneuver the image and change
colors, etc. That is a very elementary explanation,but it is the one that I
explain to my students. There is a site on the internet that does a good
job of displaying the images and it is a Hands on Universe site.
