Subject: [IMO-News] 1997 Leonids results in A&A

	Dear colleagues,

	My paper "The 1997 Leonid outburst" has been just published in the last =
volume of Astronomy & Astrophysics 355 (2000), pp.1160-1163. In the next =
days it will be available in pdf format at the address:

http://link.springerdot de/link/service/journals/00230/papers/0355003/

	I've enclosed below the abstract of this work, an attempt to obtain =
additional information on the 1997 Leonid outburst in basis to visual =
and photographic data obtained by members of our team and also using the =
IMO VMDB provided me by Rainer Arlt. I think the result it's an example =
of the valuable role taken by IMO amateur observers in this field. Many =
thanks to all the contributors!

	THE 1997 LEONID OUTBURST=20

	Abstract: In November 1997 a shower of bright Leonid meteors was=20
observed from Spain. The visual and photographic measurements of the =
Zenital=20
Hourly Rates (ZHRs) and the respective spatial number densities together =
with the=20
meteor distribution characteristics indicate the existence of a broad =
component rich=20
in large grains prior to the perihelion passage of P/Tempel-Tuttle =
comet. This dust=20
component may be responsible for similar outbursts in previous =
appearances.=20
However, the Lunar conditions impedeed in 1997 obtaining conclusive =
evidence of=20
the presence of a component of small meteoroids from more recent ejecta, =
really=20
responsible for past meteor storms. After comparing 1997 peak data with =
1965=20
data, a very close pattern is detected that supports the presence of =
future storms.
