(meteorobs) Lyrids April 21/22 + fireballs

Hi all!

Just finished my report for my last night's observation of the Lyrids.
Err, not bad at all, considering the observing conditions!! I observed for
3 hours teff and saw no less than 40 meteors. I started in the evening
at 21:30 local and finished by 00:45 local. I planned to go out at 2:30
until 4:30, but fell asleep and... ..missed it. Ah well...
I positioned myself behind my neighbour's house, so that it blocked out
the moonlight. But by 00:45, this wasn't helping much. By 2:30 the moon
would have set behind my house, but instead of observing I snoozed...
....anyway, some very nice meteors. The first really good one appeared
at 22:08 local, a -1.0 LYR with a 1 second train. Then at 23:25 a short
-4 SPO fireball appeared quite low in the south between Virgo and Libra.
Only 8 minutes later a superb 50 degree -3 LYR fireball appeared, leaving
a 7 second train. Some other good meteors included a -0.5 LYR and several
0 mag SPO.
Not bad at all. I wonder what I missed in the morning hours...

Here's the summary:

Period F	teff(h)	LM	SPO	ECL	LYR	TOT
19:30-20:30UT	1.00	0.99	6.23	6	2	5	13
20:30-21:30UT	1.00	0.88	6.23	7	0	4	11
21:30-22:45UT	1.00	1.13	6.05	5	1	10	16
			3.00 18	3	19	40

Magnitude distribution:
SPO:	-4(1) 0(1) +1(3.5) +2(1.5) +3(4.5) +4(4) +5(2.5)

VIR:	-3(1) -1(1.5) 0(0.5) +1(2) +3(7) +4(5) +5(2)

ECL:	0(1) +3(1) +4(1)

Looks like it'll stay clear today as well, I'll probably try again in the
evening
for sporadics and any Lyrid activity. I still expect 3 to 4 LYR per hour...

Clear skies!
