(meteorobs) May 6/7 Observation (YOUKI)

     I managed to awaken with the alarm clock tonight and thus made it out to my observing site on time.  I was greeted by very clear, transparent skies and put in 2.38 hrs Teff.  The parameters (times per period, beginning and end, Limiting Magnitudes, etc) were essentially the same as friday morning -- even the number of meteors seen was similar -- yet I saw a few more tonight!  I managed to see 21 meteors during period two, and 14 during the first period.  Since the ETAs were not quite as active as friday morning, the SPOs more than took up the slack!  I saw only 1 ETA during P1, and 12 during P2.
     A long lull during the first half of period one was finally broken by a real burst of activity -- I must admit I had quite a bit of fun as meteor after meteor appeared for just over 30 minutes.  In that short time frame (8:31 to 9:05UT) I saw 14 meteors!  There were no more long lulls the rest of the morning and from then on the ETAs picked up in strength.  At 07:50
a -2 green-blue meteor soared all the way from Cygnus to well past Serpens Caput with a train that was just as long...a very long-pathed meteor --roughly 70 degrees in length.
    This very enjoyable session ended with a bang, literally!  At around 9:25 I turned off the radio and began hearing lots of odd animal sounds nearby  -- one of the sounds was probably an owl that had a low, dog-like "oo-oo" which was unlike anything I'd ever heard.  Just as I decided it was just an owl, I heard a tremendous "crack!" as loud as a shotgun then a very loud crashing sound.  Evidently a huge tree had just kissed the earth.  Suddenly, for about five minutes the pine forest came completely alive with all sorts of animal sounds, from coyotes to dogs to owls to several other cries that seemed reminiscent of the soundtrack of a Tarzan movie.

Remarks:  Meteor 6 was a -2 that shot out from the heart of Cygnus and soared all the way
past Serpens Caput -- an incredibly long path with a 1 second train that was the length of the path.  It was bluish/green in color.
